Cold War Kids delivered a solid, sustained performance that
focused on their Nov. 2019 release: New Age Norms 1, part one
of a trilogy that will collectively represent the band's seventh LP.
Nathan Willett displayed his extensive vocal aptitude throughout
the 90-minute set and shined with the piano heavy
"4th of July" and during a howling version of "Coffee Spoon."
"Beyond the Pale" also stood out as the Long Beach, California
singer sat behind his piano for a solo, near the song's closing he
was joined by the tour's supporting artist Overcoats (Hana Ellion,
JJ Mitchell) see Overcoats photo here. Matt Maust glided across
the stage with his bass while moving up and leaning down to the
rhythm of the band's music--a sound that encompasses rock, soul,
indie, blues, alternative, and funk. The five member band mixed in
an ample amount of songs from their entire catalogue, thrilling the
smiling, dancing, singing enduring fans that packed the venue.
"This next one is the very first song on our very first album," said
Willett before performing 2006's "We Used to Vacation." Earlier,
classic single and crowd favorite "Hang Me Up To Dry" was
performed. Willett later dedicated a performance of "Can We
Hang On" to Kobe Bryant's friends and family.
Cold War Kids conclude their winter tour late February. The band
is also expected to release New Age Norms 2 and 3 this year.
